Station Description
The Second Mallard water quality station is operated by the San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) as part of the NERR System-Wide Monitoring Program. It is located on a piling in Second Mallard Slough at Rush Ranch Open Space Preserve in Solano County. It has been operational since 2008. Data are available in near-real time at 15 minute intervals, with observations of temperature, specific conductivity and salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, and depth.

WATER QUALITY MEASUREMENTS
Sensor Depth Distance the sensors are below the water's surface. The sensors are in a fixed position attached to a piling, so depth also measures tidal range. (units = meters or feet) Water Temperature Water temperature at sensor depth. (units = °C or °F) Salinity Salt content of the water at sensor depth. (units = Practical Salinity Scale 1978) Turbidity Turbidity measured in either formazin nephelometric or nephelometric turbidity units (FNU/NTU) based on sensor; considered to be equivalent for SWMP purposes. Dissolved O2 The amount of oxygen dissolved in water. (units = mg L-1 or % of saturation) pH Acidity or alkalinity of the water at sensor depth. (units = -log[H+])
Water Quality Data Access
These data are collected by the San Francisco Bay NERR program. The data can be downloaded in .csv format bundled with an associated metadata file and READ ME document from the NERR System Central Data Management Office. From the NERR data link below, recent and historical data may be accessed for download or graphing via the Data Graphing and Export System. The data is also distributed by the Central California Ocean Observing System through an ERDDAP server where it is available in a variety of formats including .csv, .xls, .mat and more.
